When we look at the confession, we observe that it intentionally has a “big tent” outlook on the church. It does this so as to not unnecessarily exclude any true believer from fellowship within the visible church, and the sacraments of the Lord. This is established within the confession by its discussion regarding the visible church.

Prayer is one of the greatest privileges for Christians. It is a poignant reminder that we are not only set apart as holy by the Lord but that we can come to Him with thanksgiving, issues, concerns, or needs at any moment.

Paul knew full well the issues in the Corinthian church at that present moment. He did not set into writing this letter without full knowledge of the status of this congregation.

The development of Jeremiah Burroughs’ doctrine of Christian contentment did not occur in a vacuum.  His life circumstances forced him to face the issue of being content in this world.
